Description
The manor-house “Il Torrione” near Pinerolo, was built in the neoclassic style on a project of the XIX century by an architect of the Royal Savoy Family: Xavier Kurten (autograph project of 1835) and is situated in a romantic and splendid green park.
A charming course of elegant country roads, beginning with a long boulevard of Hornbeams and leading to the vast main lawn in front of the Villa, enclosed by kilometres of walls and extending to the south, as far as a wide and mysterious lake.
Sights, large spaces, tall trees: Hornbeams, Lime-trees and some specimens of Liriodendron, Ginkgo, Pine and Fir trees, Cedars, Cypresses, Libocedars, Criptomeries, Magnolias and other valuable botanical species, like the wonderful collection of Hydrangee, adding year in year out to its wealth of new and rare varieties.

Villa Doria Il Torrione is situated in Pinerolo, about 50 km away from Sestrieres, the location of the 2006 Winter Olympics, near the French border. The estate has a splendid Historic Park available for guests and is just two kilometers away from the center of Pinerolo, where tourists can admire the ancient village that rises up the hill towards the Sanctuary of San Maurizio, the Diocesan Art Museum, the National Museum of Cavalry Arms, and the Civic Art Collection of Palazzo Vittone.
About 30 km away is Turin, which houses precious works of art such as the Egyptian Museum, the Chapel of the Holy Shroud, the Cinema Museum (inside the Antonelliana Mole), and the Modern Art Gallery. Turin is also the center of a vast system of historic homes linked to the Savoy dynasty, such as the Royal Palace, the Carignano Palace, the Stupinigi Castle, the Reggia di Venaria, the Rivoli Castle, and the Agliè Castle.
Not far from Pinerolo is Saluzzo, with the Cistercian Abbey of Staffarda, the castle, and the palaces rich in history and culture. Lastly, but not less importantly, the Manta Castle, which houses one of the most important cycles of profane painting from the fifteenth century.

We stayed one night as a base to visit the surroundings. We were very impressed by the grandeur of the structure, elegance, and spaciousness. The structure is located inside a huge park, including a lake. Unfortunately, we toured the park on a rainy day, but that did not prevent us from appreciating its beauty and admiring numerous squirrels and beautiful hydrangeas! We also took a dip in the pool, in total relaxation! Certainly, if we pass through this area again, we won't let it escape us!
